Yadi Applied Art
Nadine Royster creates under the assumed name “Yadi”. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 28, 1955, she is the seventh (7) of nine (9) children. As a child, Yadi was considered a loner and spent much of her time alone inside her mind. Pushed by her parents to pursue a “respectable career path”, she studied in business and accounting, while managing to dabble in the arts by taking classes in drawing, photography, theater and dance. Yadi spent a year in New York before relocating to Chicago, Illinois in 1978. After years of working as a professional in the business & accounting industry Yadi experienced her first spiritual awakening which took her on a three (3) year journey and sabbatical; beginning in 1987 and ending in 1990. Living the first 18 months off her savings, she continued her journey in self-imposed poverty; determined to complete her spiritual transformation. It was during this period that she began to develop and hone her artistic skills. She emerged from this time of structured meditation and reading with the artistic determination needed to begin her rebirth as an artist. Yadi seeks to challenge color and movement in her artwork, which is spiritually and socially based. She works in series because it is most representative of the various phases of her spiritual and personal evolution in this life. She is a self instructed artist who has exhibited in shows, fairs, galleries and organizations in the U.S. and Canada; and sells to a diverse group of private patrons and organizations. Nadine currently resides in Evanston, Illinois. She teaches art privately to children and in Elementary and High Schools throughout Chicago for Art Encounter of Evanston, Illinois.Yadi’s Abstracts on paper won the Award of Excellence in 2000 at the Skokie Art Festival; was commissioned to design and install a 12’ diameter . Mosaic at the entry of a new school. Her work has appeared in a number of publications and her mosaics are featured in the Mosaic Atlas (Worldwide Public Art for Website), featuring public mosaic art from around the world; the 2005 Mosaic Art Yearbook, in digital format; and she was a best of winner and published in 'The best of America - Mixed Media Artists & Artisans in 2007 by Kennedy Publishing.

Artist's Statement:
As a self instructed artist, I approach each new challenge with apprehension and excitement. Only then do I know that something wonderful is on the horizon. As a professional artist for over 15 years, I have sold hundred’s of paintings and sculpture. My work has been commission by commercial and residential clients throughout the US. I have exhibited in numerous galleries, tradeshows and fairs in the US and Canada. Challenging the elements of color, texture and materials is the driving force of my work. An intrigues behavior consumes as I work to blend the unusual and dare to combine elements – that by all logic shouldn’t be. There is something about the statement, ‘You can’t’ that drives me to prove otherwise. Why can’t I mix the hard mosaic properties with the softness of the canvas? Why can’t I use cement to compose and color a picture; as if it were paint on canvas? My art is the one place in my life where ‘Can’t’ is not an option.I take risk in my work by means of bold bright colors. Am I trying to make a statement? Perhaps! But the message I am attempting to send is that it is okay to surround your world with sunshine. If you love color - than allow yourself the excitement of that expression.
