| She was born in West Lothian Scotland studied at Napier university completing an HND in Communcation Studies The course sparked her interest in all aspects of communication especially the visual arts In the late 1980s turned to printmaking and painting looking at Stanley Hayters work with viscosity inks and landscaped shapes receiving a business award in the early 1990s Atkinson was able to attend Prof Keith Howards innovative acrylic resist etchings workshops in Edinburgh Atkinsons work has taken her to Berlin and Sweden In 2001 the prestigious Kanagawa Print Triennial accepted a piece from AboutFace - a photosilkscreen ongoing project from this suite the Scottish National Portrait gallery purchased two prints for their permanent collection Atkinsons early studies have served her well in her continuing communications in paint and ink on canvas and paper | |

| The photosilkscreen and my use of photography linked to memory and reimaging the figure I never want to reproduce the photograph the silkscreen process takes the image to another level. The importance of place and a question of time. The Face tells us eveything and nothing we weave the stories to fit the scene portaiture. | |
