Peter Day Paintings
Peter Day B.Sc. (Hons) an artist well known to the people of East Kent. Born in London, and with a Bachelors Degree with Honours in Chemistry at Exeter. He is an enthusiastic and self taught professional artist, selling his first paintings at the tender age of 14. For many years his preference was Oils, always painted ‘en plein air’. Peter’s work was paper technology and colour and ink chemistry, and he has worked for the screen printing industry for many years responsible for developing new products, leaving to pursue a full time artistic career in 2003.For the past 22 years he and his family have lived in Broadstairs, where he became a total convert to Watercolours some 14 years ago. Since then he has not looked back and is often seen sketching and painting around the coastal towns of East Kent. His style which produces glowingly colourful and lively land, town and seascapes is easily recognizable and not easily imitated. In 2000 Peter was a winner on Channel 4s’ Watercolour Challenge, and features in the books of the series where his paintings are used to illustrate several aspects of what makes a good watercolour painting. Both his paintings sold within 30 minutes at the opening of the ‘Series Exhibition’ at the Mall Galleries, London. In November 2003 Peter won a national competition resulting in the House of Lords buying three rather large paintings from him for their collection. He was a South East England finalist in the national television portrait competition ‘A Brush with Fame’ with Carol Smilie in 2005, broadcast in Sept that year.He exhibits widely, with innumerable ‘one man’ shows, especially outdoors in public places, believing in bringing his art to the people, culminating in his publishing a very successful range of Prints and Packs of Notelets of his paintings.

Artist's Statement:
Peter will paint everything from dogs, portraits and flowers to houses, interiors and land/seascapes! He doesn't believe in the 'How to paint this or that' philosophy touted by art instruction books today. He paints everything with his same inimitable flair and easily recognisable contemporary style. His landscapes especially glow with colour derived from many years of painting on site initially with oils and now watercolours. His work is not photographic but freely painted to derive atmosphere, the aim being to involve and entertain the viewer.
