Lorraine Platt Paintings
Lorraine Platt was born on Merseyside. After graduating with a B.A. Honours Degree in Fine Art and English Literature from the University of London, she has absorbed herself in a full time career painting vibrant works often featuring, exotic flowers, colourful landscapes and contemporary abstracts. Some paintings often feature elaborate compositions of still life’s, others are more simple but they are also strong in their simplicity and mood. Lorraine offers a broad panorama of influences. The paintings themselves are often inhabited by a host of glowing colours that in some paintings may be reminiscent of the vibrant energetic spectrum of Van Gogh, Matisse and Gauguin. The application of paint is thick and often heavily textured. She likes to place layer upon layer to arrive at a subtle luminosity of colour and depth. Great emphasis is placed upon colour and the mood it can evoke in each spectator. Glowing oranges and hot pinks are often placed alongside cool turquoises and slate greys.Lorraine has received recognition of her work in both editions of 'The Dictionary of Artists in Britain Since 1945' (David Buckman 1997, and the revised edition 2006), 'Watercolour Still Life, A Master Class.' (DK publishing in association with the Royal Academy of Arts 1993)Work has also been featured in articles in magazines such as Homes and Gardens, Prima, Art Business News and Inspirations. In 2006 Lorraine was invited by Oxford University's Students Union to give a talk on her career as an artist. In 2007 Lorraine also gave a talk to the British Sociology Association at their annual conference at the University of East London, entitled 'Am I that name? Nomadic lines in becoming a woman artist', and participated in an exhibition of international artists at the conference.Lorraine Platt’s paintings are collected in private and corporate collections, including Coutts Bank, Victoria Wood and the Saudi Royal family and can be found in collections in the UK, Tokyo, New York, Canada, Germany, France, and New Zealand.
