Lin Moore Photography
Lin Moore has been making photographs for forty years. The content of his work centers around landscape but the expression of that theme has taken many forms. From classic large format black and white to straight, small camera color to complex photomontage he is always searching for new ways to present his ever changing vision. An enormous curiosity has taken him to many types of employment - ski lift operator, glue factory technician, salesman, stagehand, and college professor (among many others) - and has as well fostered an interest in academic pursuits ranging from biology to mathematics to art. His photographs and his life are never satisfied with what is at hand. There is always something else, something different waiting to be discovered just around the bend.

Artist's Statement:
Throughout the various periods of my work and the various forms it has taken the essential thread holding this diversity together is always my interest in how seeing works and how photography reveals or conceals this process. What is the structure of seeing and how does it mingle with the structure of photography? I use photography to investigate the relationship of the near to the far; the sharp to the soft; the picture as a single seeing to the picture as a set of many seeings and within this realm how those seeings are arranged or ordered. Is the set of seeings internally coherent but confined by an amorphous boundary? Or does it exist within a Cartesian frame as an uncertain chaos in the act of becoming something else?In some of the stricter canons of photography much of my work is perhaps not quite as photographic as some might like. But I see things differently.Above all my pictures are photographs and the photographic vision in all its glory is what I celebrate time and again. None of my pictures could be without first passing through the camera. My vision would never see the light of day without the grand array of photography’s possibilities.
