| Lawrence Buttigieg Paintings | |
| Buttigieg (born 1963) lives and works in Malta. He studied at the University of Malta, California State University and Charles Sturt University. Over the past six years a recurrent theme of his paintings has been the female body. Through his work he explores questions of identity, representation. His paintings are a balance of physical form and feeling. He penetrates the character of the person and focuses on the inward reflective qualities. His paintings are characterized by the expressive use of light and colour. He slips his view of the model between the layers of paint. His colours are the colours of life, rendering likeness and personal stylisation inseparable. His representations are not concerned with the instantaneous image of the sitter but rather a prolonged record of her character. | |
