| Born in Dartford, Kent on 11th January 1957, Gerald Dewsbury moved with his family to Nottinghamshire in 1959 and spent the majority of his formative years roaming its comparatively mild countryside and developing an intimate interest in all its aspects.In 1976 he left school and spent the next year following a Foundation Course in Art and Design at Mansfield College of Art, which led on to a full Bachelor of Arts Degree Course at Falmouth School of Art in Cornwall. During his second years at Falmouth he was selected to exhibit in the Stowells Trophy (inter college) Exhibition held at the Royal Academy and also for the David Murray Scholarship for landscape painting. Gerald graduated in 1980.After leaving college Gerald pursued his vocation and career as an Artist and moved to North Wales in search of a wilder and more varied landscape.Gerald also has work in the collection of the `National Society for Contemporary Art in Wales', and in 2002 apiece was bought for the `Museum of Modern Art, Wales'. He also has work in numerous private collections, and works regularly to commission.In March 2003 Gerald was elected as a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy. In 2004 he was awarded the `Peoples prize' in two open shows, one in Cardiff and one in Machynlleth.Gerald's work can now be seen throughout the year at `Y Capel' in Llangollen. | |

| In 1989 Gerald Dewsbury was the joint winner of the National Welsh Eisteddfod Exhibition. In March 1993 he was awarded the `Friends of St. David's Hall Prize' for a picture shown in the St. David's Hall 10th Anniversary Open Exhibition. Similarly in February 1995 Gerald was a prizewinner in the first Open Art Exhibition to be held at the Grosvenor Museum, Chester. The picture was purchased by the Museum for their own collection. | |
