|Dan Goldberg Paintings|
|Iíve been a professional artist for the last twenty five years. I came by it honestly, because I didnít really know what else to do. Nothing seemed to make much sense to me other then being able to find a creative visual voice to express the world within and without. Being an artist is not only a way of life but most importantly a belief system as well. Itís a way of not only seeing or feeling, but of being and doing.Iíve traveled and lived all over the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe and South America. If thereís one thing that has had a huge influence on my work, it would be traveling and living where I have. Arizona and New Mexico in particular, have had an immense impact on my work and my life. There you will find a raw and transcendent beauty that is completely over whelming. The continuously changing color, movement and texture of the landscape and sky is a constant inspiration to me. You can see that inspiration in my work regarding the relationship of my use of color to color and the corresponding relationship to movement and texture. In the early nineties, I discovered a very unique way of painting that incorporates the aforementioned use of color, movement and texture. These paintings are more abstract in description and view and involve applying layers of colored acrylic gesso and acrylic paint on plastic, then when the painting is finished, you peel the painting off the plastic. This approach was a revelation to me, because weíre dealing with the use of pure material as the painting itself. This approach to painting allows me the freedom to be able to paint in any size or shape I want.Artistís that have had an influence or an importance to me for various reasons would include; Gerhard Richter, Georgia OíKeefe, Howard Hodgkinís, Henri Matisse, Franz Marc, Marc Rothko and pretty much everyone else I can think of.|
