Introduction
Some companies approach us looking for a few pictures, others want to review an existing collection, others seek to develop a long-term art strategy extending beyond the works of art themselves to PR and marketing related activities. Every project is unique. We offer a unique combination of personal experience and expertise, and an extensive range of art and services to enable you to acquire art that is right for your business, your building and your budget.
Our services revolve around the development and budgeting of art programmes to fulfil each client's particular needs, and include: Developing art programmes, sourcing and curating art collections, project managing site-specific commissions, flexible financial schemes, grant and funding sourcing, rental and short-term hire, exhibition organisation, artist-in-residence programmes, art competitions and awards, valuation and restoration, framing and installation.
How we work
We are very flexible and aim to work with you in the way that suits you and your organisation best, whether you just want a few pictures or want to develop a longer term art strategy for your business. We provide advice on developing a strategy and focus for a project, and planning timetables and budgets. We offer flexible financial options with advice on the sources and best uses of funding. We offer curatorial services for reviewing, valuing, cataloguing and re-sitting existing art. Our art knowledge and direct contacts with artists enable us to give our clients a better deal in terms of time and cost. We work with specialists in printmaking, painting, photography, textiles, water, light, glass, landmark sculpture, furniture, ceramics, digital, kinetic and environmental art, and dealing directly with several hundred artists, both established names and those starting out on their careers. We are constantly visiting art degree shows and current art exhibitions; we are also contacted by new artists daily. New artists are filtered for their skill and original flair and added to our database. We also have close links with specialist galleries, dealers and auction houses in the UK and overseas. We have an extensive cross-referenced digital database which we are constantly updating and expanding. This provides clients with an accessible central source of art for time-effective research and presentations.
Planning Interior spaces for Art
Public Art for Open Spaces
Art in public areas, both inside and outside a building, has a strong impact not only on staff, but also on visitors and the community at large. It makes an important statement about your company, its ethos and style. Art for Reception areas and Atria Art for reception areas, atria, and a building's surroundings is normally specially commissioned and forms an integral part of the architecture and interior design. It may include environmental art, external sculpture, paving, gates, banners, stained glass, murals, water sculpture, signing or multi-media displays. Clients arriving at a building see certain key areas such as reception areas, lift lobbies, executive waiting areas, boardrooms, meeting rooms and private dining rooms. These areas provide ideal opportunities for art to reflect and reinforce the organisation's style and ethos.
What type of Art can be displayed?
Sculpture, rugs, wall hangings, photography, mixed media, oils, watercolours and digital art can all have a role to play. Images of these key works of art may subsequently be used in corporate PR, literature, invitations, gifts and awards. We work with interior designers, architects, property developers, art curators, facilities managers and corporate affairs departments.
The consultancy, how does it work?
The first step would be for one of our art consultants to visit you on site to discuss your requirements and your art brief, they will also assess location, size, style and most appropriate media for the art works. Art should always be selected paying respect to the function of the space and the sentiments of the work force. They will also advise on framing and any other special requirements such as security fixings, non-reflective glass and special lighting The art consultant will then source and present, either at our studios or on-site, a selection of art appropriate for the business and building. We have extensive databases of modern artists and applied artists which can be easily researched. We can also prepare mock up presentations and visuals where the artwork can be seen in the room settings you have in mind. This will make the task of selecting the artists quicker and simpler for those of you who have to make the decisions. The art consultant will oversee and project manage the production of any commissioned artwork, ensuring completion and installation on time and within budget, supported by appropriate lighting and maintenance plans. Throughout they will liaise and communicate closely with the client, architect, interior designer, structural engineers and other contractors as necessary.
Commissioning Art
We have extensive experience in managing art commissioning programmes along with New art collectors we run two sister agencies; Commission a Portrait and Commission a Craftsman, each agency dept will work with clients, architects, facilities managers, interior designers, building engineers and artists. We have extensive databases of international artists, our databases numbering over 50,000 artists. These databases can be easily researched and visuals can be produced at speed.
Digital Imaging sourcing service
We offer a digital image sourcing service for architects and designers to make it easy for images to be introduced into layouts and designs as examples of works of art in situ. Major art commissions must be planned in good time to ensure that sites for art are identified and incorporated into the building programme, technical service issues are addressed, budgets are secured, and sufficient time is allowed for the artists to design, make and install the works. Once locations for commissioned art have been agreed, we guide your project team through the short-listing, briefing and selection stages. We liaise closely with artists during the production of their designs and maquettes, and draw up contracts between the selected artists and the client. Once a commission is under way, we continue to monitor progress to ensure that the artist meets timetable, budget, and technical requirements, and that the commission is completed and installed on time.
Developing an Art Strategy for the Business
Art is an important component of the image of a company and an integral part of a motivating working environment, and the benefits that can be obtained from a well planned, displayed, managed and promoted art collection are now widely recognised. We work with companies to reassess their existing art and develop art programmes for new buildings. This may involve reviewing an existing collection, establishing the philosophy and mechanism for selecting new works, obtaining and allocating budgets, and advising on grants. In practical terms, it often includes re-hanging, lighting, labelling and producing a digital networked and/or printed catalogue.
Re-assessing and rationalising the existing art collection
We work with many clients on an ongoing basis, helping them to maintain and maximise the long term potential of their art collection in PR and marketing terms via artist-in-residence programmes, staff art clubs, links with public bodies and museums, awards and competitions Art is an important component of the image of a company and an integral part of a motivating working environment, and the benefits that can be obtained from a well planned, displayed, managed and promoted art collection are now widely recognised. Renting Art
In addition to outright purchase, you can acquire art via a range of rental schemes. The advantages of rental include the option to exchange works of art at the end of the minimum rental term, flexible budgeting for expenditure on art to suit your financial planning, and the opportunity to 'live with' the art for up to six months before committing to purchase. Our rental with changeover scheme allows companies to add to and develop their permanent art collection on an ongoing basis, by purchasing works from a changing exhibition. Changing exhibitions can also form the basis of a staff 'Art Club', where works of art on display can be purchased by individual members of staff, with a proportion of the rental credited back against the price. Short-term rental with three or six monthly changeover is ideal for situations where a building is being let and needs marketing, or where a regularly changed sculpture provides a stimulating focal point for an entrance foyer or reception area. Works of art can also be hired for 1 day, 1 week, 1 month or 3 months. This scheme is particularly suitable for film and advertising companies, show flats and offices, marketing suites and set designers.

The innovative use of digital, mixed-media and high-tech art can provide stunning focal points. A collection of paintings, works on paper, photography and prints, changing exhibitions of rented art, or rotating works within the permanent collection provide variety and stimulation.
Landscape Architects
Art has an important role to play in the planning, design and management of open spaces, whether in rural or urban locations. There is increasing collaboration between artists and landscape architects, with many artists involved from an early stage in the development of the overall design strategy. Many of the projects we work on involve close collaboration with the landscape architects and engineers to source and commission works of art as key elements within the exterior landscaping and street architecture, including integrated features such as gates, fencing, paving, water features, lighting, seating and signing. Bespoke items commissioned from artists are often more interesting and cost effective than mass produced alternatives.
